When is the Pre-school open?
We are open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during
term time only, with term dates corresponding to
Cerne Abbas CE VC First School.

9am to 12pm Morning Session
12pm to 1pm Lunch Club

How do I register my child?
Registration forms be collected from us or downloaded, completed and returned so that your child can be placed on our waiting list.

Can we visit the setting?
Yes, we encourage a visit by the parents and child prior to starting. Please telephone and organise a suitable time.

When can I claim funding?
Funding can be claimed the term after your child turns 3. E.g. If your child is 3 in the October you can claim from the following January.

We are eligible to provide 15 hours of free childcare per week through the Early Years Entitlement grant for children aged 3 to school age along with 30 hours funding if parents are entitled. We are also able to accept childcare vouchers in full or partial payment of fees. We also take 2 year olds funding for parents who are entitled/provided a golden ticket.

Hours outside of these may be purchased.

When and how are fees paid?
Fees are paid one month in advance by the first of each month. The pre-school accepts cash, cheques, childcare vouchers and payment directly into our account.

Does it matter if my child is not toilet trained?
No child is excluded from participating in our setting who may, for any reason, not yet be toilet trained. We work with parents towards toilet training. If your child is still in nappies or pull ups please make sure you leave some with us.

If I am concerned about my child can I ring the Pre-school?
Yes, we welcome calls at anytime from parents.

Who can collect my child from Pre-school?
We will accept any nomination from you. However, unless you have notified us in advance of that person, we will not release the child into their care. Parents are asked to provide a secure password to be used by the nominated person as well.

What happens if my child does not settle?
It is unusual for a child not to settle. The excitement of new surroundings and playing with other children usually helps to settle a child quickly. If we have any concerns about your child we will always discuss them with you. Equally if you have concerns please discuss them with us. Between us we can usually overcome any difficulties.

What do I do if my child is sick?
If your child is sick please telephone the Pre-school as soon as possible. You will be contacted if your child becomes ill while with us and asked to collect them. Please keep us informed of any changes to your contact details.

How many sessions should we have?
Children must attend for a minimum of 6 hours per week. This helps children to feel more settled secure and part of the group.

Can I book additional sessions?
The Pre-school operates on strict staff to child ratios and we are limited in the number of children who can be in attendance at any one time. The Pre-school will always try to meet your needs for extra sessions and you should speak to the Manager to see if we have availability.

Is there a school uniform?
We do have Pre-school Jumpers and T-shirts available to order. This is not compulsory. These are supplied from select The Little Giants Preschool and a choice of Tshirts, Polos and Jumpers are on offer.

Do I need to label my child’s entire clothing?
Yes. It is helpful if you can. Although we do our best to keep your child’s clothing separate there are times it can get mixed up with others. If it is labelled it enables us to quickly identify it and return it to you. All personal belongings should be named as many children are interested in the same things i.e lunchboxes.

What happens if I realise I will be late collecting my child?
In an emergency we will hold staff on to look after your child. It is vital that you alert us to your problem ASAP so that we can make timely arrangements. An additional cost may be incurred, please see our policy on late collection of children.

If my child has an injury will I be told?
Yes, if your child receives any injury, no matter how minor you will always be told. All injuries are recorded in an accident book and will identify the accident, the injury, what treatment was carried out and the staff member dealing with it. You will be asked to sign that you have seen the entry and that you are content with how the matter was handled. Any pre existing injuries should be notified to pre-school staff.

Do you have policies on Pre-school procedures?
Yes and parents are most welcome to see them. Our policy statements are designed to offer the best possible experiences for your child and are reviewed on a regular basis. Comments and suggestions from parents are always welcomed.

Who is responsiblefor the Pre-school?
The pre-school is run by an elected committee which ensures that major decision making is in the hands of the parents who use the Pre-school. The Committee and Manager are responsible for reviewing both policy and practice and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff. The Manager is responsible for the day to day running and education of your child.

Who can join the Committee?
All parents are welcome to join the committee to take part in the management of the pre-school and to assist with fundraising. You may even be invited to attend courses, workshops and conferences.
